Australian Apprenticeships / Pre Apprenticeships / Traineeships

Australian Apprenticeships (formally New Apprenticeships)

What is an Australian Apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship?

Australian Apprenticeships is a term to describe the traineeships and the traditional apprenticeships available under the Australian Government scheme. An Australian Appenticeship offers an exciting and flexible program where students learn industry skills by combining on-the-job paid work at the workplace with training and theory at NMIT. Qualifications are recognised throughout Australia.

Pre-apprenticeships take up to six months and prepare students for apprenticeships by teaching them the basic skills they need. Students do not need an employer to sponsor them for a pre-apprenticeship.

NMIT offers apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship courses in agriculture & animal science, building structures & services, computer systems & electrotechnology, design drafting & interior fittings, hairdressing, hospitality, jewellery, locksmithing and mechanical manufacturing.

Traineeships

What is a traineeship?

A traineeship benefits both the employee and the employer. The employee receives nationally accreditated training and the employer has access to training programs for staff designed to improve workplace skills. Traineeships are similar to apprenticeships with the education provider, employee and employer involved with skill development, but traineeships are usually in vocations not covered by the traditional apprenticeship-style training. NMIT offers traineeships in business, computer systems & electrotechnology, health & community studies, retail & wholesale and visual arts.
