Course Description

The Apprenticeship in rural production is designed to develop a range of skills in animal health, husbandry and handling as well as tasks associated with pasture and crop production, agricultural vehicle, machinery and equipment operations.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course will have new skills to apply to their employment in the Agriculture industry.

Course Duration

Part-time: 36 months (maximum) to complete each course.

The competency based system allows apprentices to learn at their own pace and possibly complete the apprenticeship in a shorter period of time.

Course Commencement Dates

Ongoing throughout the year.

Entrance Requirements

Employment in the appropriate rural sector.

Application Procedures

Apply directly to the Agriculture and Animal Science Department .

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications and/or prior experience.

Pathways to Further Study

On completion of an Agricultural Apprenticeship students can undertake training in the Certificate IV in Agriculture, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Agriculture courses.

Course Outline

The course is an integrated on and off-the-job program of up to 3 years duration. (The hours of training are subject to which units are chosen by the apprentice, employer and trainer.) Contact the department for units of competency available

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods for this course include:

  • written activities 
  • oral activities
  • written and oral tests
  • practical exercises

Materials

Students are required to supply their own stationary for the course and suitable clothing when undertaking practical projects.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.  On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate III in Agriculture.
