Course Description

This qualification functions as the entry point into the aquaculture sectors of the seafood industry, and is aimed at providing participants with a variety of core skills and underpinning knowledge required to work as a field hand in the aquaculture sector.

Career Opportunities

Those obtaining this qualification may gain entry into a wide range of occupations within the aquaculture industry and associated enterprises.

Course Duration

Part-time: One year to 18 months.

Flexible delivery options are available for some units.

Course Commencement Dates

Part-time: Ongoing throughout the year.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants need to have secured employment in the aquaculture industry in order to gain entry to this course. There are no additional entry requirements or prerequisite studies.

Application Procedures

Due to the Certificate II level subjects being delivered on a trainee basis, a group training organisation is required in order for the host employer to obtain government subsidies. The group training organisation will then contact NMIT with details of the traineeship and the enrolment process will then commence.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications and/or prior learning and experience, which may lead to a reduction of the course duration.

Pathways to Further Study

Certificate II in the Seafood Industry (Aquaculture) articulates into Certificate III in the Seafood Industry (Aquaculture), which in turn can lead to Certificate IV, Diploma and Bachelor Degree level study.

Materials

Students are required to supply their own stationary for the course and suitable clothing when undertaking practical projects.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate II in the Seafood Industry (Aquaculture).
