| Course Description
A Plumber & Gasfitter installs and maintains pipes that carry water, sewage, gas and other industrial services.
He/she installs roof and wall coverings, sanitary fixtures, gas appliances, heating and ventilation equipment, fire hydrant and sprinkler systems, urban irrigations systems and is responsible for their commissioning and maintenance.

Trade schooling - block release.
Year 1 - 9 blocks of 40 hours

| Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers
Applicants will receive exemptions/transfers where they can:
- Provide evidence of successful completion of the same module/competency at another Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or within another accredited course
- Provide evidence of successful completion of an equivalent module/competency at another RTO or within another accredited course
- Demonstrate and/or provide evidence of competence via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

| Pathways to Further Study
Trainees may enter the Certificate IV in Plumbing & Services to enhance their knowledge toward Regulation Bodies and Licence Level Exam.

| Course Outline
The standard course comprises 1080 hours of student learning. The student will attend NMIT for 360 hours per year and this is delivered in one-week blocks per year. The student will undertake a range of competencies in any one week. The course is delivered over 3 years.
NMIT will offer 5 streams consisting of water (mandatory), drainage, sanitary, gas and roofing.
Four of these streams must be completed to be eligible to sit the regulatory bodies registration exams. It is envisaged that mechanical services will be offered in the future.
The course uses various approaches to learning and assessment, such as small group instruction, theory lessons and practical demonstrations

| Assessment Methods
On completion the student will be tested on the practical area of the course by an external examination. On completion of the selected alternative streams the student will be tested on the theoretical component of the streams by external examination.

All materials are supplied as part of enrolment fees. Equipment lists are available from the Building Structures & Services Department.

| Qualification
As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate III in Plumbing & Services.
