Course Description

Trainees are employed by qualified wall and floor tilers and train on-site with their employer and offsite with a Registered Training Organisation e.g. NMIT.

Trainees work on full size projects of varying degrees at NMIT's specially designed facilities.  Training identifies and underpins the underlying requirements to collect, analyse and organise information; communicate ideas and information, plan and organise activities, work with others and in teams, use mathematical ideas and techniques, solve problems and use technology required within the industry.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course may gain employment in the building industry as a wall tiler sub contractor or contractor.

Course Duration

Schooling is part time consisting of 8 x 40 hr (1 week) blocks per year over 3 years.

Course Commencement Dates

February and ongoing enrolments throughout the year.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants must be apprenticed.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Applicants will receive exemptions/transfers where they can:

• Provide evidence of successful completion of the same module/competency at another Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or within another accredited course
• Provide evidence of successful completion of an equivalent module/competency at another RTO or within another accredited course
• Demonstrate and/or provide evidence of competence via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Applications should be made directly to the course co-ordinator.

Pathways to Further Study

Trainees may enter the Certificate IV in Building Construction to enhance their skills as a supervisor or toward obtaining builders registration.

To obtain this qualification all core competencies plus a minimum of two electives from the 3000 series must be achieved.

Assessment Methods

Internal assessment with progressive testing.

All materials are supplied as part of enrolment fees. Equipment lists are available from the Building Structures & Services Department.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.  On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate III in General Construction (Wall and Floor Tiling).
