Course Description

Certificate IV in Business (Marketing)
This course provides individuals with a broad range of business skills and knowledge in areas such as presentation and communication, sales, business analysis, marketing research, customer service, sales management, consumer behaviour, market segmentation and general I.T. and business document production. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of theory to "real world" and actual business situations.

Diploma of Business (Marketing)
This course provides individuals with a practical understanding of marketing theory, market opportunity development, marketing communications, developing appropriate marketing solutions and reviewing marketing performance. A basic understanding in areas such as business law, e-business and management will also be covered in relevant competency areas. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of theory to "real world" and actual business situations.

Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing)
This course provides individuals with a practical understanding in a range of specialist marketing areas such as international marketing, direct marketing, e-business, marketing strategy development, marketing management and marketing planning. An understanding in areas such as budgeting, economics and business planning will also be covered in relevant competency areas. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of theory to "real world" and actual business situations.

Courses are developed under the Australian Qualifications Framework, in close consultation with industry organisations and professional associations. 
Students completing the Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) are eligible for admission to the Australian Marketing Institute.

Career Opportunities

Certificate IV - Targeted job roles include selling, customer service, sales co-ordination and administration and assisting marketing managers.

Diploma - Targeted job roles include assistant product management, customer service, sales management, branch management, services marketing, communication and research coordination and assisting the marketing management function.

Advanced Diploma - Targeted job roles include product management, marketing management, customer service management, sales management, branch management, services marketing management, marketing communication planning, marketing research and direct marketing and management.

Course Duration

The duration of each course will be dependent on the pre existing competencies that a student is able to demonstrate (see exemptions).  Concurrent studies in specified units may also affect the duration of the course.

The Commerce Department structure courses so that students studying full time will complete qualifications as listed below within the following time frames

Certificate IV in Business (Marketing) - Six months to one year

Diploma of Business (Marketing) - One to one and a half years

Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) - Two years 

Part-time studies are available in the Certificate IV in Business (Marketing) and the Diploma of Business (Marketing).

Course Commencement Dates

Full-time: February
Part-time: February, July and ongoing.

Entrance Requirements

There are no formal entrance requirements to the course.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Department that they are capable of completing the course having regard to the relevant competence levels in the training documents.

Application Procedures

Full-time:  For February entry apply for the Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) through VTAC
Part-time:  Apply directly to NMIT.  Enrolment sessions are held in December, January and June.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) may be available based on skills and knowledge already acquired by the applicant through previous study or equivalent studies of a similar standard at another institution or from various work and life skills.

Pathways to Further Study

The Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) may be used for entrance into a degree course in the higher education sector.  Entrance requirements and exemptions vary with course and university.

BSBMKG407A Make a presentation (30 hrs)
BSBMKG408A Conduct market research (80 hrs)

BSBMKG502A Establish and adjust the marketing mix (80 hrs)
BSBMKG503A Develop a marketing communications plan (50 hrs)

BSBMKG505A Review marketing performance (40 hrs)
BSBMKG506A Plan market research (50 hrs)

Plus three units from the Business Services Training Package or any other endorsed Training Package. A minimum of two (2) units must be from a qualification at AQF V level. One (1) unit may be from a lower level in this qualification.

Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing)
Successful completion of eight units for the qualification

Five units from the following:

BSBMKG602A Develop a marketing plan (60 hrs)
BSBMKG603A Manage the marketing process (50 hrs)

BSBMKG607A Manage market research (50 hrs)

Plus Three units from the Business Services Training Package or any other endorsed Training Package. A minimum of two (2) units must be from a qualification at AQF VI level. One (1) unit may be from a lower or higher level in this qualification.

Assessment Methods

Various forms of assessment may be used including classroom testing, assignments, presentations, group work, case studies and industry or simulated industry practicums.

Materials

Students will be required to purchase prescribed text books and other materials as detailed in the Commerce Department booklist.

Qualification

Certificate IV in Business (Marketing) As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.  On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate IV in Business (Marketing).

Diploma of Business (Marketing) As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.  On successful completion students will be awarded the Diploma of Business (Marketing).

Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing)
As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.  On successful completion students will be awarded the Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing).
