Course Description

This course is designed to develop the skills and knowledge to support the on-site training of registered trainees within the servicing sector of the caravan manufacturing industry.

Students undertake training in various skill areas which include but are not limited to caravan industry knowledge, occupational health and safety, plan interpretation, safe use of hand and power tools, basic welding, safe operation of plant and equipment and general aspects of caravan servicing and repair.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course may wish to continue employment as a qualified trades person or undertake further studies for the purpose of securing a supervisory position within the servicing or manufacturing sectors of the caravan industry.

Course Duration

Part-time: One and a half years (566 hours)

Course Commencement Dates

February.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants must be registered as a trainee/apprentice in this qualification.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

Pathways to Further Study

Students who have completed their Certificate III training may choose to do further post-traineeship/apprenticeship studies in associated fields.

THCSTS07A Carry out mechanised cutting (20 hrs)
MEM5.12AB Perform routine gas metal arc welding (20 hrs)
THCSTS01A Apply technical knowledge of recreational vehicle manufacturing to work activities (20 hrs)
THCGQA01B Apply quality standards and procedures (20 hrs)
THHGTR01B Coach others in job skills (20 hrs)
THCGHS06B Meet occupational health and safety requirements associated with electrical work (45 hrs)
UTE NES209B Attach flexible cords and plugs to electrical equipment to 250 volt supply (10 hrs)

THCSER06B Remove and re-install furniture and appliances in a recreational vehicle (10 hrs)
THCSER07B Service/repair water system within a recreational vehicle (15 hrs)
THCSER08B Replace damaged sheeting & glazing of a recreational vehicle (15 hrs)
THCSER09B Repair/replace furniture in a recreational vehicle (15 hrs)
THCSER10A Repair or service running gear for a recreational vehicle (40 hrs)
THCSTS03A Use small plant and equipment (16 hrs)
THHGHS03B Provide first aid (24 hrs)
MEM5.12AB Perform routine manual metal arc welding (20 hrs)
MEM5.50AA Perform routine gas metal arc welding (20 hrs)

Assessment Methods

Assessment for this course is competency based. Students have the opportunity to demonstrate competence by satisfactorily completing the specified theory based tasks and practical projects.

Participants of this course may be required to purchase specific equipment and texts. Contact the department for more information.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate III in Recreational Vehicle Servicing.
