Course Description

This course is intended to give the participant exposure to the various trades which come under the electrical industry umbrella. The course provides the opportunity to understand the electrical trades industry terminology, basic circuitry and colour coding which enables the student to communicate with prospective employers.

Career Opportunities

Completing this course will increase your chances of being selected as an electrical apprentice. This program prepares graduates to apply for an electrical apprenticeship and allows students to gain experience in the electrotechnology industry. The electrotechnology industry covers electronics, electrical, communications including data and information technology, computer systems, security systems, instrumentation, and refrigeration and airconditioning. The industry is experiencing job growth, in particular, in construction, building and maintenance fields. These areas lead to an exciting career in the electrical trades as an electrician, electrical fitter, electrical machine repairer, and renewable energy installer.

Course Duration

Full-time: Six months (600 hours)

Course Commencement Dates

January and July.

Entrance Requirements

Completed Year 11.  Studies in maths and science preferred.

Application Procedures

Apply directly to the Computer Systems & Electrotechnology Department.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

Pathways to Further Study

The framework provides a pathway for students to gain employment within the electrical industry as an apprentice leading to a qualification in the Certificate III in Electrotechnology.

Assessment Methods

Assessment in this program is conducted by assignments/examinations and practical tasks.

All materials are provided including workbooks and notes as required.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate I in Electrotechnology.
