Course Description

The course is a pre-vocational qualification that aims to provide skills and knowledge in preparation for a hairdressing apprenticeship.

Full-time: One semester (288 hours)

Part-time: One year (288 hours)

Course Commencement Dates

February and July

Entrance Requirements

Selection is via completion of task sheet and interview. Applicants must have the literacy skills to achieve course requirements and be over 15 years of age.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

WRHCS201A Prepare clients for salon services (18 hrs)
WRHCS202A Maintain tools and equipment (10 hrs)
WRHCS204A Maintain and organise work areas (10 hrs)
WRHCS205A Follow personal health and safety routines at work (15 hrs)
WRHCS206A Perform head, neck and shoulder massage (20 hrs)
WRHCS207A Develop hairdressing industry knowledge (15 hrs)
WRHHD201A Dry hair to shape (35 hrs)
WRRCS1B Communicate in the workplace (46 hrs)
WRRLP1B Apply safe work practices (18 hrs) WRRER1B Work effectively in a retail environment (36 hrs)
WRHCL201A Apply temporary hair colour and removal of residual colour products (25 hrs)
WRBFS203B Design and apply make-up (40 hrs)

Assessment Methods

Assessment is competency based and integrated. Satisfactory completion of each learning outcome will be required. Some competencies may be assessed through course work while others may be achieved through on-the-job training.

A list of materials will be provided upon enrolment.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate II in Hairdressing.
