Course Description

This course is designed to link theory with practice and aims to provide graduates with the skills, knowledge and values required to work effectively in the Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) sector.

Career Opportunities

By 2007, all Department of Human Services funded organisations require employees who work with AOD issues to have an accredited AOD qualification.

Course Duration

The course is delivered over 12 months part-time and is a fast-tracked industry course. Classroom teaching occurs on Wednesday afternoons (2-5pm) and evenings (5:30-8:30pm). The mode of delivery is fleximode where most assessment tasks can be completed on the job, which reduces the number of hours students are required to attend classes. Fleximode delivery is available only to students who are working in an appropriate workplace that will enable them to complete assessment tasks on the job.

Course Commencement Dates

February 2007.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants must be at least 20 years of age at the commencement of the course and are required to have completed two years paid and/or volunteer work experience in the community services sector. Applicants must also be currently employed in a community services sector organisation with clients who have AOD issues.

Application Procedure

All applicants must attend a compulsory information session. Session dates can be obtained by contacting Health and Community Studies.

Applicants who meet the selection criteria must attend an interview at NMIT.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

Pathways to Further Study
