| Course Description
The Certificate III in Farriery (Trade) delivers a comprehensive range of topics
designed to provide the skills necessary for prospective employment
in the horse industry as an accredited farrier. The course is designed
to equip participants for accreditation as recognised farriers.

| Course Duration
The Certificate III in Farriery (Trade) comprises 956 hours of off and on-the-job training
spread over a four year period combined with workplace assessment.

| Entrance Requirements
There are no formal educational prerequisites for entry into this course, however, it
is expected that prospective students have basic literacy and numeracy
skills equivalent to Year 9.
To qualify as an accredited farrier, the prospective student must meet the assessment
criteria in all 20 modules in the Certificate III in Farriery
(Trade) delivered in the course.
The student must also complete a first aid qualification such as the St John's Ambulance,
Red Cross or Workplace Level 2 Certificate within the first year
of their apprenticeship.

| Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers
Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications and/or prior experience in the farriery industry.

| Pathways to Further Study
Graduates may go on to the Certificate III in Racing (Advanced
Stablehand), Certificate III in Racing (Thoroughbred Trackrider)
or the Certificate IV in Racing (Thoroughbred Owner Trainer).

| Assessment Methods
Subjects which are essentially theoretical may be measured through oral questioning
in class, written tests, assignments and personal research projects.
Practical skills will be assessed by staff, and through industry
assessments such as on the job assessment or workplace simulation.

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.
On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate
III in Farriery (Trade).
