Description
The Certificate II in Floristry provides training that gives participants
the skills necessary to enter the Floristry industry. A sound basis
in practical floristry skills will be developed along with the essential
underpinning knowledge such as plant identification, care of stock,
retail and customer service communications.
Students will complete part of their training as a placement in
a suitable floristry enterprise. There is a strong focus on the
development of practical skills in contemporary techniques in Floristry.
Students are actively encouraged to participate in floral competitions.
NMIT provides excellent training facilities for floristry students.
These include:
- Spacious practical workrooms
- Cool room facility
- Extensive collection of horticultural material for identification
and practical design work
- Computer laboratory
- Well-resourced library.

| Career Opportunities
Graduate of this course may gain employment in the floristry enterprises
producing floral arrangements, retailing floral work, and preparing
flowers for sale.

Duration
The Certificate II in Floristry is approximately 462 hours in duration
and is conducted as a full time course over three days per week
for one semester. There is the possibility of completing some units
of competency in the workplace.

Commencement Dates
Certificate II - Courses commence in February and July.
Certificate III - Courses commence in February. There may be scope
for continuous enrolment throughout the year.

is best suited to their needs.

| Skills Recognition
- Exemptions/Transfers
Students enrolling into this course who have completed studies
at other institutions should discuss the possibility of being exempted
from related units in this course. If a student can demonstrate
a full practical and theoretical understanding of the unit from
their work then they may discuss the option of being assessed for
this in their workplace. Students are eligible for Skills
Recognition.
Students, who are granted exemptions for parts of their course,
may negotiate an individual mode of delivery with the course coordinator.

to Further Study
Successful completion of the Certificate II in Floristry may lead
into the Certificate
III in Floristry. Units completed in Certificate II in Floristry
will gain the student credit for units in Certificate
III in Floristry.

Methods
A competency based course assessment is based on student's abilities
to achieve unit outcomes. There is the opportunity for workplace
delivery and assessment of competencies. Assessment methods include:
- Demonstration of skills
- Tests and assignments
- Folios
- Third party reports.

All floral materials and sundries provided.

| Qualification
As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program
is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will
be awarded the Certificate II in Floristry.
