Course Description

This course provides the training for people who have qualified in Landscape or equivalent. The training has a large emphasis on design and business. Ideal for those wishing to be involved in landscape design & construction management.

Units offered cover supervision and design competencies. The following is a sample of these units. For a full listing see Course Outline

  • Cost a project
  • Generate design solutions
  • Manage landscape projects
  • Produce CAD landscape design

Students at NMIT's Fairfield campus will be trained in a purpose built, spacious landscaping facility. In addition, students have access to a plant identification laboratory; irrigation training facilities, soils laboratory and computer laboratory with the latest versions of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) software.


Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Cert IV in Applied Design (Landscape) may gain employment as a landscape designer, landscape manager/site foreman, run a business or work in landscape/horticulture consultancy.

Course Duration

The Certificate IV in Applied Design (Landscape) has a nominal duration of 500 hours.

The mode of delivery is part-time, one day/evening per week over 2 years.

Course Commencement Dates

Courses commence in February. There may be scope for continuous enrolment throughout the year.

Entrance Requirements

Successful completion of the Certificate III in Horticulture (Landscape) RTF 30403 or equivalent training and experience.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students enrolling in these courses who have completed studies at other institutions should discuss the possibility of being exempted from related units in this course. If a student can demonstrate a full understanding of the unit from their work, then they may discuss the option of being assessed for units in their workplace. Students are eligible for Skills Recognition.

 

Pathways to Further Study

These qualifications may lead to further study in the Diploma of Horticulture (Landscape).

Course Outline

The Certificate IV in Applied Design (Landscape) requires successful completion of 11 units of competency.

NMIT, in consultation with industry, has constructed this course that satisfies the packaging rules and is tailored to the requirements of industry.

VBP324 Monitor and finalise landscape project works

Once the training component has been successfully completed, an application for certificate must be lodged for the certificate to be issued.

 

Assessment Methods

A competency based course assessment is based on the student's abilities to achieve unit outcomes. There is the opportunity for workplace delivery and assessment of competencies. Assessment methods include:

  • Demonstration of skills
  • Tests and assignments
  • Folios and log books
  • Oral activities
  • Third party reports.

Materials

List of safety equipment and books that need to be purchased by students will be distributed to students early in the course.

Qualification

This course is accredited under the Victorian Qualifications Authority Act 2000 and has been entered on the state register of accredited courses and recognised qualifications. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate IV in Applied Design (Landscape).
