Course Description

The objective of this course is to prepare school leavers and the unemployed for employment in the engineering industry.

This course includes a substantial number of Metals and Engineering Training Package competencies. Some of these competencies are included in the Certificate III in Engineering (Apprenticeship).

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course may gain employment in the engineering industry.

Course Duration

Full time: Thirteen weeks

Course Commencement Dates

January and July.

Entrance Requirements

Students must have completed Year 10. There is provision for mature age students who do
not meet this educational prerequisite.

Application Procedures

Apply directly to the Mechanical Manufacturing Department in December/January for Semester 1 intake and June for Semester 2 intake.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

Pathways to Further Study

Students may gain employment or progress to further studies in the engineering field. Students who continue on to apprenticeship studies after completing the Certificate II in Engineering Production (Mechanical) may have relevant modules credited to their apprenticeship.


Course Outline

The Certificate II in Engineering Production (Mechanical) consists of four foundation competencies plus skill enhancement training. It consists of nine competencies.

MEM1.2FA Apply Principles of OH&S in Work Environment (20 hrs)
MEM1.3FA Apply Quality Procedures (20 hrs)
MEM1.4FA Plan to Undertake a Routine Task (20 hrs)
MEM2.1C12A Apply Quality Systems (20 hrs)
MEM2.3C11A Operate in A Work Based Team (20 hrs)
MEM2.5C11A Measure with Graduated Devices (20 hrs)
MEM2.6C10A Plan a Complete Activity (40 hrs)
MEM2.7C10A Perform Computations - Basic (20 hrs)
MEM7.5AA Perform General Machining (80 hrs)
MEM9.1AA Draw and Interpret Sketch (20 hrs)
MEM9.2AA Interpret Technical Drawing (40 hrs)
MEM12.6AA Mark Off/Out (40 hrs)
MEM18.1AA Use Hand Tools (20 hrs)


Total hours - 400

Assessment Methods

Assessment is by completion of the learning outcomes for each competency. All competencies are competency based.

Materials

Personal safety workwear required.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate II in Engineering Production (Mechanical).
