Auditions Applicants are required to do an audition / interview. Auditions can be booked from the start of October and are held from late November - places are very competitive in all music courses at NMIT.
Advanced Diploma of Music (Performance - Jazz and Contemporary)
Applications for this course must be made through VTAC - the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre. VTAC applications incur a late fee after September. The course is offered at the Fairfield and Greensborough campuses. If you wish to apply for each campus you need to indicate this in your VTAC preferences. All applicants need to attend an audition - these are conducted in late November and early December. See FAQ.
Audition Requirements
1) Perform two pieces of music on your principal instrument - keep in mind that the course focus is on jazz and contemporary music.
2) A brief sight reading test.
3) A brief aural test.
4) A contemporary music theory test.
5) A brief interview.
You are required to bring your own instrument to the audition and you are also required to provide your own accompanist(s). The audition room has the following equipment for your use: drumkit; bass and guitar amplifiers; a P.A. for vocalists (with 2 SM58 microphones); a CD/cassette player; an acoustic piano. The audition process takes approximately one hour. Interstate applicants may audition through the use of a recording and a supervised theory test. Contact Glenn Blair for further details. Certificate II in Music Industry (Foundation)
Applications into this course are made directly with the course co ordinator Michael Rochford. An audition will be required. The audition requires that you play one piece of music on your chosen instrument and that you undergo a brief interview. Contact Michael Rochford for further information on (03) 9269 1845. Part Time Study
To apply for the Part Time Study, an audition will be required. The audition requires that you play one piece of music on your chosen instrument and that you undergo a brief interview, aural, theory and sight reading test. (See the Advanced Diploma's "Audition Requirements", above). There is no VTAC requirement, although demand for places is extremely competitive with a limited availability of places.
