Course Description

Video production is the growth area of television production in Victoria. NMIT is a major provider for the industry. The course is designed for people currently working or intending to work in video production and broadcasting. The course operates with equipment used commonly in the industry and includes non-linear editing on AVID Media Composer and Final Cut Pro. Students work in state-of-the-art HD Broadcast production studios.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of these courses may find employment in corporate video, production houses, advertising agencies, government organisations, private industry and TV broadcasting.

Full time:

1st Year - Certificate IV in Screen
2nd Year - Advanced Diploma of Screen

Course Commencement Dates

February.

Entrance Requirements

Initial entry to any unit is subject to department approval and will be determined by a personal interview and selection test. Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate existing skills suitable for this course.

Experienced practitioners may gain direct entry into the Advanced Diploma.

Application Procedures

Apply through VTAC. All students must complete an NMIT supplementary form.

All prospective applicants who submit a supplementary application form will be invited to a briefing session held in late November. Compulsory interviews, held in early December, are booked at these briefing sessions.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Exemptions from some units in the course may be granted to students who have completed equivalent studies at other institutions and/or in other courses.

Assessment Methods

Assessments occur in classroom sessions, practical sessions, and in the field.

The following methods are used:

  • observation of students' performance and actions
  • direct questioning and verbal interaction
  • written tests and assignments
  • analysis of finished video productions

All materials and printed notes will be supplied.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate IV in Screen.
