Course Description

The course aims to provide participants with practical and theoretical knowledge in meetings & events.

Visits and inspections of tourism operations in Melbourne complement the course structure. In addition, practical event experience is gained through involvement with guest information and registration and the coordination of an event.

The following qualifications may be obtained after successfully completing the course:

· Certificate III in Meetings and Events
National Code: SIT30604

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course may gain employment as:

  • Conference Guest Reservations Consultants.

Course Duration

Full-time: 6 Months

Course Commencement Dates

February.

Entrance Requirements

Successful completion of VCE or mature age with work experience.

Application Procedures

The Tourism Department welcomes direct applications for this course. Direct applicants must obtain, complete and forward to the department the Tourism Department Pre-selection Application Form.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods have been designed to complement the learning outcomes. Assessments are ongoing and can occur during class hours, therefore 100% attendance is expected, except in the case of illness where special consideration is granted.
Assessment methods include but are not restricted to:

  • reports and case studies
  • group activities
  • verbal and written reports
  • discussions and role plays
  • practical exercises
  • computer simulations
  • tests/exams.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate IV in Tourism (Operations), Certificate III in Tourism (Visitor Information Services) and Certificate III in Meetings and Events.
