Course Description

Certificate I in Live Production – Theatre & Events is suitable for students with disabilities particularly those with individual learning needs. This course is supported by the City of Darebin, which provides activity opportunities for students in Darebin's Arts and Cultural Development Branch. The course aims to provide skills to assist with:

  • Voluntary or paid employment
  • Further education and training
  • Other adult service options
  • Community-based cultural activities

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course may gain employment at base level entry points into a wide variety of industries.

Course Duration

Full-time: day, 540 hours over one year

Course Commencement Dates

February.

Entrance Requirements

  • Have special learning needs (possibly associated with intellectual, learning or psychological disabilities).
  • Have an interest in participating in community-based performing arts and entertainment activities.
  • Have the support of his or her family or advocate.

Application Procedure

1. The applicant can be recommended by a professional person who has a good knowledge of him or her, or the applicant may refer himself/herself .
2. The referee or applicant is required to complete an "Application for Interview" form.
3. A representative of NMIT interviews the applicant and family or advocate.
4. Applications close 31 October. Applicants will be interviewed in November/December.

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

Pathways to Further Study

Students who complete this course may move onto a variety of courses at the Certificate I & II levels. Such as:

Certificate I in Transition Education
Certificate I in Work Education
Certificate I & II in General Education for Adults

They may also receive credit for units of competence completed that exist in other courses through the Entertainment Training Package. Students may also move into paid employment, voluntary work or other service providers.

Assessment Methods

The method of assessment is competency based through student participation in performance and group based activities, on & off campus and where possible an integrated approach to assessment is taken. Assessment is through:

  • observations
  • demonstrations
  • oral questioning
  • performance tasks
  • discussions
  • simulations / improvisations.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate I in Live Production, Theatre & Events (Ignition Theatre Training).
