Description
YAMEC is an accredited ESL course designed for young migrants who
haven't completed secondary schooling and who need to develop further
English language and literacy skills.
It will also provide the skills necessary for students to access
further training and employment. It is the first step in TAFE on
an educational/vocational pathway into mainstream education, Australian Apprenticeships and /or employment.

YAMEC 1
2007 and 2008: 36 weeks, 20 hours per week
YAMEC 2
2007 and 2008: 36 weeks, 25 hours per week
YAMEC VCAL 36 weeks, 25 hours per week

| Entrance
Requirements
Young migrants, 16 to 26 years, who have had disrupted or incomplete
schooling in their country of origin and young migrants who have
been out of the school system for a long time and may find secondary
school inappropriate.

Procedures
Apply directly to the Youth Unit.
Austudy/Youth Allowance "Approved Activity" applies for
full-time study.

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers
on the basis of previous qualifications.

Students may apply for other TAFE courses or seek employment.

Methods
Assessment is competency based and may include practical demonstrations,
oral questioning, role plays, case studies and projects.
