Accommodating the needs of employers wherever possible makes it a first choice for many Victorian businesses in the trades and related industries.
Located at NMIT's Heidelberg campus is Victoria's most modern trades training facility. Custom built to suit the training needs of each trade, it is popular with employers and students alike.
To ensure training is available when it is convenient for the student
and their employer, some programs are offered on a full or part-time
basis on weekdays and evenings as well as in pre-employment
and block release mode. Short and customised courses are also taught
in the workplace and on campus.
The faculty is strongly involved in community projects which give students a high ratio of real experience. Projects include onsite construction of homes for disadvantaged youth, transportable homes and the refurbishment of community buildings.
The Faculty of Building and Construction provides training in:
- joinery/shopfitting/stairbuilding
- furniture construction
- cabinet making
- caravan manufacturing/servicing
- carpentry
- plumbing
- bricklaying
- painting and decorating
- fibrous plastering
- interior decoration and design
- building design and drafting
- wall and floor tiling
- roof tiling and slating
- civil engineering
- building & construction (supervision and management)
A strong awareness of employers' needs determines trade training at the Heidelberg campus, where custom built facilities equip students with top tuition and industry experience.
The faculty is directly involved in community projects giving students 'hands-on' training in a range of building and construction areas. |
