Faculty of Further Education

A diverse range of people gain access to education, training and employment as a direct result of their participation in the courses and learning environments designed and delivered by the Faculty of Further Education.

Programs designed to meet the needs of particular student groups include: 

  • courses for mature age students wishing to return to study or re-enter the workforce. These include courses suitable for women and those interested in maths and science programs
  • services and programs to support young people in choosing a career path, selecting training options and gaining access to employment 
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) to migrants, refugees and international students 
  • a Koorie Services Centre at the institute's Preston campus which has a proud 24-year history and attracts students from all over Australia 
  • the Centre of Excellence for Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing at the Preston campus. Established in 1993, the centre's mission is to increase the participation and enhance the quality of the learning experience of its students in vocational education and training. 


The faculty also provides industry with communications and literacy training required for the workplace.

The Faculty of Further Education provides the following training: 

  • communication, language and literacy in the workplace
  • young adult migrant education 
  • literacy/numeracy for Deaf and hard of hearing students
  • literacy/numeracy and basic education programs 
  • women's programs
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)

Courses for mature age students, supportive training and employment programs for young people, English as a Second Language for migrants and refugees, a Koorie Services Centre and a Centre of Excellence for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are some of the attractions of this faculty.

It also provides industry with communications and literacy training required for the workplace.
