What is Australian Popular Music?
Within the context of this course, Australian Popular Music is defined as any music performed in contemporary Australian society. This may include jazz, classical, pop/rock, and world music amongst other styles. This program of study provides students with the flexibility to pursue their stylistic preferences, whilst developing detailed knowledge and understanding of the wider Australian music scene.
Designed to prepare students for a variety of employment options in the Australian contemporary music industry, the academic degree includes music theory and music practice, music technologies and music and culture with a focus on the development of a broad knowledge of contemporary issues in the Australian music industry.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2001 more than 17,000 people had a music occupation. Music is a multi-million dollar industry, with about four million people attending popular music concerts in 2002.
The Australian music industry is extremely diverse with a broad range of career options. Educated, informed musicians wil be the norm across most contemporary music fields.

major facilities to industry standards that support higher education in the music industry.
The Bachelor of Australian Popular Music offers three years of specialised music study and is structured around four strands of learning- Music Tools and Language, Music Practice, Applying Music Technology and Music and Culture, Creativity and Music Business.
The interdisciplinary degree encompasses a variety of contemporary music styles including, but not limited to, jazz, world music, folk, rock and pop, electronica and multimedia.
What is the cost of studying at NMIT?
Students can enrol in NMIT's bachelor courses for three year's full time, or have the option of enrolling part time.
The degree programs are fee for service and costs AU$12,000 each year, however all courses have the option of FEE-HELP for eligible students.No amenities fees are charged for any higher education courses.
The tuition fees are calculated based on full-time study. Part-time fees per year depend on subjects chosen (part-time study is only available to domestic students).
