Course Description

This two year course is designed to prepare students to assume responsibility for, or participate in, the care of infants and young children up to the age of six in a variety of child care settings. To reinforce the practical nature of the course, supervised practicums give students the opportunity to consolidate the institute based component of the course by adapting knowledge, skills and attitudes to caring for children in particular situations (0-3 years, 3-5 years and 6-12 years).

Career Opportunities

Seek employment in the field of children's services, caring for young children up to the age of six in a variety of child care settings. Students may use this course to gain entry to degree courses in Early Childhood Development and Primary Teaching.

Entrance Requirements

Australian Year 12 (or recognised equivalent) or relevant work experience. IELTS 5.5 or higher (or recognised equivalents). Mature Age.

Assessment Methods

Assessment for each competency will be through a combination of 'on the job' (practicum) and 'off the job' tasks. 'Off the job' assessment is a combination of the following:

  • Class exercises
  • Assignments
  • Tests
  • Practical demonstrations

Students are required to pass the Certificate III level competencies prior to proceeding with the Diploma level competencies.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised . On successful completion students will be awarded with the Diploma of Children's Services.
