Course Description

This training is based on the National Community Services/Disability Work Competency Standards and reflects the nationally endorsed industry requirements.  The training is designed to provide skills and knowledge required to work within the disability services sector including supported employment, recreation, adult day support services, advocacy, respite and peer support programs.    

Career Opportunities

Excellent employment opportunities in both government and nongovernment sector in residential facilities and community settings. Graduates may work with people with a large range of disabilities. Seek entry into a Diploma of Community Services (Disability Work).

Entrance Requirements

Australian Year 12 (or recognised equivalent) or relevant work experience. IELTS 5.5 or higher (or recognised equivalents). Mature Age.

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.

Assessment Methods

Competencies will be assessed in a variety of modes including:

  • on-the-job demonstrations of skills and
  • knowledge
  • written pieces
  • classroom activities

Materials

All materials will be supplied to students at a cost of up to $75 per student (subject to change for 2006). This materials fee makes up part of the total course fees.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate IV in Disability Work.
