Course Desription

The first year of this course is the dual Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) & (Programming) in which the student completes 1030 hours of study. Students successfully completing the first year of the course (Certificate IV) can progress into second year (Advanced Diploma) in which they are able to concentrate their second year studies in one of two streams:

  • Network Security
  • Database Design & Development / Systems Process & Improvement

Career Opportunities

Graduates from the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Systems Process & Improvement) function at a senior operative level with responsibilities spanning design, development, site performance, database integration through to implementation and acceptance testing.

Job roles can include the following: Analyst/Systems Analyst, Analyst Programmer, E-commerce Programmer, E-Commerce Architect, eServices - Web Programmer, Intranet Engineer, Java Developer, Pearl Programmer, Project Manager, Senior Architect - E-commerce, Solutions/Applications Architect, Web Programmer, Webmaster/"Internet Developer", Web Development Manager, Web Architect, Web Programmer/Software Engineer, Web Developer, WAP and Designer/Developer. .

Course Duration

Full-time: Two years (The first year is the Certificate IV in Information Technology)

Database Design & Development / Systems Process & Improvement Stream
(Total 925 hours)

This stream will provide the opportunity for students to enhance and further develop the skills and knowledge introduced in the Certificate IV in Information Technology (completed in first year).

Course Commencement Dates

February, also July at Preston campus only.

Entrance Requirements

Satisfactory completion of the Certificate IV in Information Technology. (The first year of the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology).

Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications and/or work experience.

Pathways to Further Study

Students completing the Diploma may be eligible for exemptions into various Victorian university courses. The amount of credit will depend on the type of university course students wish to enter. Please contact the university entrance office directly. Students will receive 80 credit points (equivalent to one year) if they are accepted into the Bachelor of Information Systems at the Australian Catholic University.

Qualification

As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations).
