AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

With over 3 million people living in the city   –   Melbourne is one of the most exciting and cosmopolitan cites in the world   –   with a rich tapestry of fun and interesting events including the arts and music festivals   –   multicultural celebrations   -   and sporting events such as the Australian Grand Prix and the Melbourne cup.

Providing a lifestyle for all tastes   -   Melbourne boasts some of the best fine dining in Australia with its grand restaurants   -   as well as its sophisticated bars and cafes.

Australia is widely recognised as one of the worlds most enlightened and liveable countries   -   more than 150 languages are spoken in Australia, making it one of the worlds most linguistically and culturally diverse countries.

Melbourne certainly has something special to offer everyone.

“NMIT is one of the largest providers of vocational education in Australia. We currently have over 50000 students both in Australia and overseas. And we’re offering courses to students from over 50 countries as well.

Most students when they think of vocational education will think of learning English, our ELICOS program or our certificate and diploma courses. But NMIT has now branched out and we offer quite a few different bachelor programs. 3 year full bachelor programs we have aquaculture, illustration, music and then we have associate degrees which focus on the business courses.

The teachers that we have are really caring about each individual. We have really small class sizes for example if you’re at a university you might be in a class with 200 or 300 students at NMIT it’s more likely you’ll be in a class with between 10 and 20 students, it’s a very individual learning arena.” – Marcus Scott, International Projects Officer

NMIT offer nationally accredited courses ranging from certificates running 6 to 12 months   -   diplomas over 12 months to 2 years   -   2 year associate degrees   -    and 3 year bachelor programs.

“My name is Toshiaki Mii. I’m a student studying at NMIT, TV production. When I started this course I really concerned about many things. One of them is of course language, the other thing of technical stuff. NMIT I found it is easy to get used to everything, especially NMIT has a student support system. I found it very helpful.” – Toshiaki Mii, NMIT Student – Television Production

NMIT occupy 6 campuses throughout Melbourne’s northern districts   -   as well as training facilities and farms across regional Victoria.

“My name’s Simon. I’m the student housing support officer at NMIT. Well, as the student housing support officer my role is broken up into 2 parts. Now first is the housing which encompasses, I would probably say, rental, home stay, share accommodation for our students on campus, and seeing that I’m based at Collingwood, which is the international office, we have a lot of international students that require accommodation. So that’s the first part of my role. And the second part would be the support which is again; international students are the main focus of my support. Anything that we might feel that an international student might require on a day to day basis.” – Simon Germantis, Student Housing and Support Officer

NMIT offer a range of services to International students including airport pick-up   -   and assistance with the location of accommodation.

“I would recommend studying at NMIT. It’s been great. I really love living in Melbourne.” – Toshiaki Mii, NMIT Student – Television Production

“We’re very much interested in providing the best experience possible for all our students at varying campuses” – Simon Germantis, Student Housing and Support Officer

“I hope this shows you what NMIT can offer you and I really look forward to meeting you in Australia” – Marcus Scott, International Projects Officer
