The Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT) seeks expression of interest from suitably qualified people for lecturing in Seafood Processing and Food Safety Management subject. The Sessional Lecturer - Seafood Processing & Food Safety Management will deliver lectures and conduct practical components on handling and processing strategies & principles for seafood product, development of food safety management plans, quality assurance, hazard and critical control point analysis, etc to the 3rd year Bachelor of Applied Aquaculture students.
Duties include:
- Lecture preparation and delivery of the theoretical and practical components of the subject.
- Subject Co-Ordination
- Student Assessments
- Maintenance of appropriate records
- Reporting as required
Program Structure
The subject to be delivered develops knowledge of the handling and processing strategies for product from aquacultural farms, develops knowledge on planning and design of efficient production lines, product design, product quality, assessment of risk, food safety management plans, etc.
Delivery of the subject involves:
- One day per week, over 13 weeks between February 18 & July 20.
- Each day involves 2 - 5 contact hours, comprising lectures, and/or practical components as required.
- Two field trips to seafood processing industry.
Qualifications
- A degree in Aquaculture/Fisheries science/ Food Processing Technology or related are, with a relevant specialisation is essential.
- A Postgraduate qualification in a related area is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to teach in an effective and innovative teaching program in Seafood Processing/Food Processing Technology/ Aquaculture/Fisheries, including delivery of lectures, practical and field work.
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimum supervision.
Significant Safety Issues
Strict compliance with all relevant OH&S regulations.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Chemical handling.
