Selection Policy

NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE)
Statement on the Institutional Privacy Policy
in regards to
Estimated Enters & ‘Consideration of Disadvantage’

NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) fully endorses the following:

1. the National Privacy Legislation
2. VTAC’s Privacy Policy

VTAC Selection Officers at NMIT will be forwarded a copy of all correspondence received by the Institute’s Liaison Officer from VTAC regarding:

1. VTAC’s Privacy Policy
2. Estimated Enter Scores
3. ‘Consideration of Disadvantage’

The ‘S’ Form Application
This application form is to be treated in accordance with the VTAC Privacy Policy: - refer to the VTAC Website.

NMIT will not use this information for any other purpose than the verification of the applicant’s ‘consideration of disadvantage’.

NMIT’S use of the Applicants VTAC ‘S’ form

1. On receipt into the Institute, the ‘S’ form will be subject to the obligations outlined in the VTAC Privacy Policy.

2. Information collected on this form will be handled in accordance with the National Privacy Principles.

3. This information is to be only used for the sole purpose of considering,
selecting, and making an offer to the applicant.

4. Selection Officers are to take into consideration when considering an
applicant for selection under ‘consideration of disadvantage’ the following:

(i) the applicant has satisfied course pre-requisites (if any, as stated in the current VTAC Guide)
(ii) the nature of the disadvantage
(iii) the length of time of the disadvantage
(iv) the period of time during the school year of the disadvantage e.g.
is it close to the time of submission of CATS and the VCE exams, or did it take place at the beginning of the VCE year.

5. The Selection Officer upon completion of the selection process, will return the ‘S’ form to the Institute’s Liaison Officer who will retain
the form(s) for a period of fourteen days after the offer letters are mailed. Once the fourteen days have elapsed, the form(s) will be destroyed in accordance with the National Privacy Principles.

At NMIT, no re ranking of any Enter scores takes place during the selection period. Applicants who submit the ‘S’ form will be considered using item 4 above.
