Advanced
Diploma
An advanced diploma prepares you for a wide range of supervisory and
middle management positions. Most of NMIT's advanced diploma courses
take two to two and a half years of full-time study, or the part-time
equivalent. They require Year 12 for entry, although mature age students
are encouraged to apply for these courses even if they have not completed
Year 12. The first one and a half to two years of the advanced diploma
course are usually the diploma course. Diploma
A diploma prepares you for various supervisory and middle management
positions. Most diplomas take one to two and a half years of full-time
study, or the part-time equivalent. Like the advanced diplomas,
most of NMIT's diploma courses require Year 12 for entry, although
mature age students are encouraged to apply for these courses even
if they have not completed Year 12. The first year of the diploma
course is usually called a certificate IV.
Certificate
IV
A certificate IV can lead to supervisory positions in larger organisations,
running small businesses, assisting professionals or operating in
a high-level technical capacity. Most certificate IV courses take
one year of full-time study, or the part-time equivalent. Most require
Year 12, although mature age students can apply even if they have
not completed Year 12. Many certificate IV courses are the first
year of a diploma. Students may finish after one year and receive
a certificate IV or continue to a second year and graduate with
a diploma.
Certificates
(I, II and III)
Certificates train people to work in specific areas and most are
open to students who have completed Year 11 or are mature age. Most
certificate courses can be studied full-time or part-time and vary
in length from 6 weeks to one year full-time.
Apprenticeships
& Traineeships
Australian Apprenticeships replace the old apprenticeships and traineeships,
but like the old system, you must have a job with a participating
employer before you can do apprentice training. Apprentices generally
learn industry skills by combining on-the-job paid work with training
at a TAFE or other approved educational provider, however for some
Australian Apprenticeships, all training and assessment can take place
at work. Australian Apprenticeships not only cater to traditional areas
of apprentice training such as building, electrical trades, and
cookery, but now extend to a broader range of industries like office
administration, retail and personal care. Australian Apprenticeships are
much more flexible than the old ones. The qualification is based
on competence, rather than the amount of time served. Qualifications
are recognised throughout Australia.
Pre-apprenticeships
Pre-apprenticeship courses take eight to 16 weeks and prepare students
for an apprenticeship by teaching them the basic skills of the trade.
Students do not need an employer to sponsor them for a pre-apprenticeship
and will be assisted to find an employer when the course has finished. |
